This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to play a key part in strengthening and sustaining the finance function’s risk culture across both MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc.
You will be instrumental in operationalising risk and compliance frameworks, providing independent oversight, and supporting the delivery of robust risk management practices. What you'll do: As Finance Business Risk Assistant Vice President at MUFG, you will play an integral role in supporting the finance division’s commitment to robust risk management. Assist with maintaining and refreshing the Finance Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), ensuring it remains compliant with regulatory standards and internal policies.
Support the delivery of risk management training initiatives for the finance function, helping colleagues understand and embed positive risk culture activities throughout their daily work. Provide independent oversight by performing control testing, reviewing event read-across processes, conducting deep dive reviews, and challenging completed non-SOX control tests to drive continuous improvement. Produce comprehensive risk and control management information (MI) using modern technologies such as AI to identify quality issues, gaps for remediation, and areas for process enhancement.
Assist with regular risk assessments in line with framework requirements, ensuring all findings are accurately documented and escalated as necessary. Support the Finance Risk Appetite Framework (RAF) and Horizon Scanning forum by analysing risk tool data for inclusion in committee presentation materials. Challenge risk and control owners to provide clear evidence for issue resolution and action closure, ensuring accountability across all levels of the finance function.
Act as a subject matter expert on risk management tools within the finance team, extracting reports and performing detailed data analysis to identify non-compliant items or control inefficiencies. Assist with responding to risk and control attestation requests by verifying data accuracy and independently checking responses for completeness. Build strong relationships with key individuals across London EMEA Finance teams, global services teams, offshore locations, as well as other support functions such as Operational Risk, Executive Control Office, and Internal Audit.
What you bring: To excel as Finance Business Risk Assistant Vice President at MUFG, you will bring proven experience from similar roles within banking or financial services environments, particularly those involving operational risk frameworks. Your background should include hands-on involvement in interpreting complex datasets related to risks or controls; this analytical mindset is complemented by your ability to communicate findings clearly through written reports or presentations. Demonstrable experience working within an operational risk management framework in a banking environment, ideally with exposure to both finance functions and regulatory compliance requirements.
Proven ability to interpret complex risk and control data sets, coupled with strong report writing skills for compiling comprehensive forum packs or committee presentations. Experience conducting control testing activities—including non-SOX controls—and providing independent challenge or oversight to drive improvements within established processes. A solid understanding of banking products or investment banking services gained through previous roles within financial institutions.
Strong academic background with a willingness to learn new concepts quickly; relevant qualifications in risk management would be advantageous but are not essential. Excellent communication skills that enable you to build rapport with stakeholders across different departments or geographic locations. Meticulous attention to detail combined with strong numerical abilities; able to spot inconsistencies or potential issues before they escalate.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), plus familiarity with modern data analysis tools or AI-driven reporting solutions. A calm approach under pressure; able to prioritise tasks effectively while maintaining high standards of accuracy even during busy periods.
