Job Description
Role & Responsibilities The Human Resources Manager serves as the subject matter expert for HR matters across Canada and the US. The manager will lead Human Resources initiatives in areas such as Performance Management, Employee Relations, Employee Engagement, Diversity & Inclusion, Policy and Procedure Development, health care benefit coordination, Health and Safety and HR Compliance. Organizational Development Partner with the President and Senior Management in creating, formulating, communicating and implementing the organization’s Vision, Values and overall business plans and objectives.
Work with the Senior Management team to coordinate a company‑wide process of organization development that addresses issues such as organization design, job design, headcount forecasting, succession planning, skills/knowledge development, key employee retention and change management. Performance, Culture & Employee Experience Lead performance management processes, including goal setting, performance reviews and calibration support for managers. Manage employee relations matters, including investigations, performance improvement plans and termination processes in partnership with legal counsel when required.
Support and implement leadership development, manager training and employee learning programs. Assist each department in creating a training matrix for current employees and new processes, keeping all records of the training matrix and evaluations for performance measurements. Talent Management Assess current and future staffing needs of the organization and develop/execute appropriate talent acquisition plans and programs, including temporary agencies, behavioural assessments, contingency/retainer‑based search firms, testing methods, screening/selection protocols and job descriptions.
Lead competitive market research to establish pay practices and pay bands that aid recruitment and retention of strategic hires. Provide guidance, coaching and support to people managers on performance management including terminations, role changes and promotions, employee development and day‑to‑day HR practices. Track, analyze and report on core HR metrics (e.g., turnover, time‑to‑hire, engagement insights).
Own the HRIS and HCM (Dayforce) as the single source of truth for employee data, ensuring data accuracy and security. Health Care Benefits Oversee benefits administration and keep programs competitive and compliant within Canada and the US. Administer all company benefit enrollment for new staff and updates or changes for current staff, training with insurance brokers on Canadian and US benefit packages such as Health and Dental, Life and LTD and 401(k) retirement plans, and update the HRIS accordingly.
Policies/Procedure/Legislation Compliance Ensure 100% compliance with Canada & US employment and labour laws, including ESA, human rights legislation and workplace health and safety requirements. Maintain, update and enforce employee handbooks, policies, procedures and practices aligned with local regulations. Assist the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) in establishing “toolbox” monthly training, including training materials and guidelines, maintaining up‑to‑date records of the training.
Health and Safety Participate as a Management Representative on the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Oversee legally mandated training requirements for JHSC members and first aiders. Produce procedures to assist in reducing workplace accidents, WSIB claims and incidents.
Qualifications & Education Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a specialty in Human Resources. 5‑8 years of progressive human resources experience, including recruiting coordination, with demonstrated ownership of HR operations and people management practices. Strong working knowledge of Canadian employment legislation and HR regulatory requirements. Knowledge of U.S. employment legislation and HR regulatory requirements preferred.
Experience using HR systems & tools (e.g., Dayforce) with a process and data‑driven mindset. Proven experience supporting senior leaders. Professional HR designation (CHRP/CHRL) or working toward, preferred.
