Position Description Reporting to the HR Director, the Human Resources Generalist will support the development and implementation of HR programs, policies, and initiatives that align with the Company's goals, values, and growth strategy.
This role will play a key part in talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, and immigration support across our Canadian and U.S. operations. This is a hands-on role that combines Human Resources and operational support responsibilities. The successful candidate must be comfortable working both in an office setting and in-store environment and will be expected to support store operations directly when required.
Duties and Responsibilities Participate in developing and implementing organizational HR policies, procedures, and best practices. Recommend strategies to enhance employee engagement, retention, and performance across storefront and management teams. Assist with talent acquisition and recruitment activities, including sourcing candidates, conducting interviews, reference checks, and preparing employment agreements.
Organize and administer probationary and annual performance reviews, compensation reviews, and employee development planning. Provide guidance and support to Store Managers and Regional Managers on employee relations matters, attendance management, performance concerns, disciplinary actions, and policy interpretation. Conduct workplace investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions.
Perform employee onboarding, orientations, and maintain employee records. Manage and maintain the organization's employee database and HR information systems. Produce and submit reports on HR activities, workforce metrics, and recruitment initiatives.
Assist with payroll administration, budgeting, and other HR-related functions. Coordinate and support Canadian and U.S. immigration processes, including LMIA applications, employer-specific work permits, Francophone Mobility Program applications, L1A intracompany transfers, and other employment-based immigration programs. Liaise with external immigration lawyers and consultants to facilitate immigration applications and maintain compliance.
Monitor work permit expiry dates and maintain immigration compliance records. Support workforce planning initiatives related to international recruitment and talent mobility. Stay current with HR trends, employment legislation, and industry best practices.
Travel to store locations as required to support recruitment, training, employee relations, and operational initiatives. Support store operations as required, including assisting frontline staff during peak periods, staffing shortages, store openings, and special projects. Prepare beverages, serve customers, and perform barista duties when required to support operational needs.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Expectations of the Successful Candidate Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably within retail, restaurant, hospitality, franchise, or multi-unit operations environments. Experience supporting both hourly frontline employees and management teams. Strong understanding of Human Resources practices, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, employment legislation, health and safety, and workforce planning.
Experience supporting Canadian immigration programs, including LMIA applications, employer-specific work permits, and other employment-based immigration processes. Experience supporting U.S. employment-based immigration matters, including L1A transfers and visa administration, is strongly preferred. Experience working with external legal counsel and immigration consultants is considered an asset.
Knowledge of Canadian employment standards legislation; exposure to U.S. employment practices is an asset. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. Strong organizational, time management, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and HR information systems. Ability and willingness to work in-store and perform frontline operational duties when required. Ability to travel between store locations as needed.
Experience in a fast-paced retail, food service, restaurant, or franchise environment is strongly preferred. Fluent in Mandarin and/or Cantonese an asset. CHRP designation is considered an asset.
Work Environment Due to the operational nature of the business, this role requires flexibility and regular interaction with both corporate and store teams. The successful candidate will be expected to balance strategic and administrative HR responsibilities with hands-on operational support. This may include working in-store, preparing beverages, serving customers, supporting store openings, assisting with staffing shortages, and participating in operational initiatives when required.
