Job Description Associate Hydrogeologist position within the Ground & Water Team (UK & Ireland). The role involves leading projects, managing staff, and providing environmental consultancy services to both external and internal clients. The successful candidate will support project delivery, develop hydrogeological conceptual models, prepare reports, and contribute to business development.
Responsibilities Lead projects and line‑manage staff, providing high‑level environmental consultancy services. Project manage complex tasks with strong commercial awareness, ensuring timely completion of finance systems and invoicing. Lead by example on process, procedure and protocols.
Demonstrate Chartership or an equivalent professional qualification. Provide technical direction and robust reviews of technical work prepared by others, offering constructive feedback. Offer managerial and technical oversight of people, teams, proposals and projects; may lead a small team.
Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients and identify opportunities for new client engagement. Communicate with clients frequently, including regular visits and feedback reviews, to ensure client satisfaction. Manage hydrogeological data and develop conceptual models and data interpretation.
Use and learn hydrogeology software such as ConSim, LandSim, P20, FeFlow, Modflow and Seep/W. Participate in hydrogeological risk assessment, dewatering, groundwater resource studies, pumping tests, yield tests, modelling, borehole prognosis, abstraction and geothermal projects. Develop proposals for complex opportunities (e.g., >£100k net revenue) and increase knowledge of contract types and governance.
Manage multiple projects or proposals simultaneously. Promote health, safety and wellbeing culture and demonstrate WSP values. Prepare and self‑check complex reports, conveying information understandably.
Delegate tasks effectively with review and feedback. Develop specialist skills in line with career aspirations and performance development reviews. Qualifications Proficiency in managing hydrogeological data and preparing evidence‑backed conceptual models.
Demonstrable experience creating factual and interpretive reports as a contributing author. Experience with risk assessment modelling using ConSim, RTM and LandSim. Motivated team player who collaborates to strengthen technical and social aspects of the team.
Postgraduate qualification (MTech, MSc or PhD) in Hydrogeology or a related hydrogeological discipline. Behaviour Expectations Takes pride in work and encourages others to do the same. Promotes and influences best practice at all times.
