Job Description
This position provides management support to the group that is responsible for developing methods to process and disposition all waste streams generated by the TRISO-X Facility, a nuclear fuel fabrication facility being designed to manufacture TRISO coated-particle-based fuel forms. This includes directing the work of individual contributors on the team, supporting the management of resource and organizational needs of the Waste & Recovery team. This role will also support design, licensing, construction, and operation of the TRISO-X Facility.
Job Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related discipline from an accredited university or college.
- Typically, seven plus years of relevant engineering after completion of undergraduate study. Graduate degrees typically count as two plus years of experience.
- Willing to work with hazardous materials such as low enriched uranium, nitric acid, and phenolic resin.
- Strong chemistry background to understand concentrations and chemical hazards present in waste streams.
- Knowledge of and experience with manufacturing facility design and approaches to lean manufacturing.
- Experience in design of chemical processing equipment or related systems.
- Understanding of waste permitting in the state of Tennessee.
Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities
- Support the execution of developing methods to process and disposition all waste streams generated by the TRISO-X Facility, a nuclear fuel fabrication facility being designed to manufacture TRISO coated-particle-based fuel forms using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program / project requirements.
- Wastewater holding tanks.
- Wastewater treatment.
- Waste monitoring and surveying.
- Interface with and provide support to waste permitting.
- Work with commercial nondestructive assay equipment (NDA) manufacturers to develop/procure/implement NDA systems to support disposition of waste streams potentially contaminated with low enriched uranium.
- Create and continually update a master list of all waste streams in the TRISO-X Facility.
- Support the design and licensing of the TRISO-X Facility.
- Supports with the management of the utilization of engineering resources across multiple projects and ensures qualified engineers are performing assigned work.
- Lead design cycle sprints and provide direction to ensure the convergence of efforts of engineering team members, partners, and suppliers to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality engineering work products are on schedule and within budget as defined by the Project leadership.
- Influences and supports the development of strategy, methodology and technical tools for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and policy formulation.
- Work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to create the next generation nuclear reactor technologies.
- Perform work in accordance with design control procedures, ensuring thorough documentation of work, facilitation of internal and external design reviews, and control of product design configuration data.
