Senior COBOL Developer

We are looking for a Senior COBOL Developer for an 6 Month Day Rate Contract on a hybrid basis in Dublin. Job description - the role Deloitte is looking for a Senior COBOL Developer to join our team, supporting the maintenance, optimisation, and modernisation of core legacy systems across a range of industries, including financial services and public sector clients.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across both legacy and modern environments, contributing to critical transformation programmes while ensuring stability and performance of existing systems. What you'll do; Design, develop, and maintain applications written in COBOL within mainframe environments Support and enhance legacy systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system integration and modernisation initiatives Analyse business requirements and translate them into technical solutions Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations Contribute to migration and transformation programmes (e.g. mainframe to cloud or microservices) The skills you'll need: Strong hands-on experience with COBOL development in mainframe environments (e.g. IBM z/OS) Experience with tools such as JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM Solid understanding of batch processing and transaction systems Experience working on large-scale legacy systems in regulated or enterprise environments Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced project teams Excellent stakeholder communication skills Technical & Ways of Working Exposure to modernisation initiatives (e.g.
