Being a Registered Nurse
Registered nurses are responsible for providing high quality holistic nursing care to oncology patients during their entire outpatient cancer care experience including assessment, intervention, treatment coordination and administration, support and follow-up.
Registered nurses also play an important role in patient education throughout the cancer care continuum. As care team members, they support patients and families in their journey by counselling them regarding their diagnosis, treatment plan and self-care. Patient safety is a critical aspect of quality health care; registered nurses monitor patient reactions to treatment and changes in physical or mental status and use independent judgment as to when to consult a physician.
They refer patients to other health-care professionals in the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency or health authorities, such as social workers, dietitians, physiotherapy, home care and palliative care. Registered nurses work in many roles, including primary clinics, treatment administration, clinical trials, transplant, radiation therapy review, brachytherapy, referral centre, telephone triage, education, clinical coordination, and pain and symptom management.
Saskatchewan is an amazing place to live, work and raise a family with affordable housing; short commutes; four seasons; a welcoming community atmosphere that feels like home; and abundant forest, farmland, freshwater and clean air.
