Position Overview
The Project Controls Lead supports capital projects by developing budgets, schedules, forecasts, and progress reports while working closely with project managers, engineers, operations, and other stakeholders. This role is responsible for monitoring project performance, managing changes, maintaining documentation, and ensuring that projects remain on track and within budget. The position requires strong skills in cost control, scheduling, risk management, and project reporting across the full project lifecycle.
This position will support company locations throughout the US and Canada. The position will be based remotely with approximately 20% travel as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Supports project managers by developing budgets, schedules, forecasts, and progress reports.
- Coordinates with internal teams and outside contractors throughout project planning and execution.
- Assists with procurement activities, subcontractor selection, and project documentation.
- Prepares reports on project spending, forecasting, schedule changes, and closeout activities.
- Develops Work Breakdown Structures, cost estimates, schedules, and related project documentation.
- Supports contract management, invoice tracking, document control, and project coordination.
- Maintains project documentation structures to ensure accuracy, compliance, and accessibility across systems such as hard copy files, Autodesk Vault, and SharePoint.
Qualifications
- Understanding of capital projects, construction project cycles, and project budgeting.
- 5+ years of experience in project controls or project support roles with increasing responsibility.
- Knowledge of project processes from concept to closeout, including procurement, financial reporting, risk assessment, and change management.
- Ability to read, interpret, and manage project contracts and documentation.
- Proficient in cost estimating methods and an understanding of estimate accuracy at various project stages.
- Knowledge of scheduling processes, milestones, and deadlines; experience with P6 or MS Project is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional project teams.
- Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Experience with cloud-based construction management tools is preferred.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Valid driver"s license and willingness to travel approximately 20 percent.
