Job DescriptionThis role supports the operation of high-speed printing presses that produce labels for major retail and grocery customers. You will work in a clean, climate-controlled production facility, assisting press operators with material handling, quality checks, and equipment changeovers. This is a hands-on position that requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
The role offers a structured training path to become a press operator, with clear opportunities for long-term career growth in printing and production.ResponsibilitiesSupport the press operator with day-to-day production activities on rotary printing presses.Stand at the end of the press line to catch printed materials as they come off the machine.Inspect printed labels for quality, ensuring they meet visual and production standards.Box finished products accurately and palletize boxes for shipment or storage.Assist with changeovers by loading and changing large rolls of paper into the press, including rolls weighing 50+ pounds.Help change wet inks in the press, following proper procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation.Maintain a clean and organized work area, including managing ink and materials to minimize waste.Follow safety procedures at all times, including wearing required composite-toed or steel-toed shoes during interviews and shifts.Work effectively in a loud, fast-paced production environment while maintaining focus and quality.Collaborate with team members and press operators to meet production goals and deadlines.Demonstrate reliability by consistently showing up on time and completing assigned tasks.Participate in cross-training opportunities to learn additional production, packaging, or machine operation tasks as needed.Essential SkillsAt least 1 year of experience in manufacturing or production, such as general production, packaging, assembly, or machine operation.At least 6 months of mechanical or mechanically inclined experience, demonstrating comfort working with machines and tools.Ability to lift up to 45 pounds independently and assist with handling rolls of paper weighing 50+ pounds.Experience in general labor, production, or related roles such as packing, boxing, banding, or inspection.Comfort working in a fast-paced, loud production environment with continuous machine operation.Strong attention to detail for quality inspection of printed materials.Reliable work history of at least 6 months, verified by references, demonstrating punctuality and dependability.Willingness to wear composite-toed or steel-toed shoes for both interviews and all shifts.Ability to pass required background and drug screening processes.Additional Skills & QualificationsPrevious experience in printing, print production, or working with printing presses is preferred but not required.At least 6 months of experience as a press operator or press assistant is preferred.Experience with machine operation, assembly line work, or production line tasks is a plus.Comfort working with inks and being in an environment where ink odors are present.Interest in learning a skilled trade and building a long-term career in press operation.Willingness to participate in a structured press operator training program lasting approximately 6 to 12 months.Why Work Here?The company offers a strong total rewards package and clear paths for advancement. The production area is loud due to continuous press and machine operation, and there is a noticeable ink smell that may not suit everyone. Each shift typically includes about 15 to 20 team members, creating a collaborative and focused production atmosphere.
Composite-toed or steel-toed shoes are required at all times, including during interviews and while on shift. Rotary shifts include: First shift, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; second shift, Monday through Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to midnight; and third shift, Friday through Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Century, KS.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
