Job Description
The Law Society of Northern Ireland is recruiting for Practice Leads to join their Policy & Engagement team which is responsible for advising the Society's governing Council and its Committees on matters of legal Policy, including developing responses to Government legislative and policy proposals. Policy and Practice Committees cover topics including; Access to Justice; Contentious Business; Conveyancing & Property; Criminal Law; Family Law; Future of the Profession; Human Rights & Equality and Non-Contentious Business. Reporting to the Head of Policy & Engagement, these roles require a pro-active approach to engagement with stakeholders, a problem-solving mindset and an ability to represent the Society on matters which affect members and their clients.
The Practice Leads will be the Society's subject matter expert in particular areas of law and legal practice and will lead and support Policy and Practice Committees, draft high quality consultation responses, and contribute to the Society's Continuing Professional Development programme. These roles will appeal to candidates with knowledge of the NI legal system, excellent communication skills, strong judgement, and the ability to analyse complex legal and policy issues. Applicants should have at least three years' PQE as a solicitor or barrister, or equivalent level experience advising on policy in a Government department, NGO, academic setting or equivalent.
