Office Manager – Office of the Vice President and Associate Provost for Community
Position Type: Full‑Time/Regular – Location: Boston, MA – Salary Grade: 46 (Estimated $55,300–$61,000)
Overview
The Newbury Center provides programming, resources, community, and support for first‑generation undergraduates, graduates, and professional students at Boston University. The Office Manager manages day‑to‑day operations, budget and financial matters, supervises graduate and undergraduate student employees, performs general office administration, coordinates event logistics, and handles special projects as needed. This 100% on‑campus position reports to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities
- Manage day‑to‑day operations of the Newbury Center.
- Administer and oversee the budget and financial matters.
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate student employees.
- Handle general office administration and coordination.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage event logistics.
- Execute special projects as assigned.
- Work independently, anticipate office and director needs, and prioritize tasks.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive data.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and 1–3 years of experience required; training and vocational skills may substitute for experience.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to write well and interact diplomatically with diverse constituencies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience supervising students, basic accounting skills, advanced event management experience, and technical skills such as newsletter and survey creation.
- Research skills to gather information on first‑generation programs at other institutions.
- Commitment to expanding cultural competency and understanding of issues faced by first‑generation students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and set priorities.
- Flexibility to work early/late evenings and weekends as needed, but not regularly.
