Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Practitioner or Staff Nurse within the Pre‑assessment suite at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy. This fixed‑term (9‑month) role (maternity cover) runs Monday to Friday and supports the Senior Charge Nurse in delivering a clinically effective service that prepares patients for surgical admission.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical assessment and physical examination of elective surgical patients.
- Manage ongoing medical needs to facilitate planned admission for surgery.
- Liaise with surgical/orthopaedic wards and theatres to coordinate admission and discharge planning.
- Develop and expand the role to meet patient and service needs.
Qualifications
- Staff Nurse (Band 5): Relevant experience in a variety of surgical/orthopaedic settings; knowledge of the acute surgical/orthopaedic pathway desirable.
- Nurse Practitioner (Band 6): Advanced Clinical Examination and Non‑Medical Prescribing course completed.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills; ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
- Must become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme prior to appointment.
