Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:The Painter, under the direction of the Operations Manager, is responsible for preparing and painting various surfaces in residential and community buildings managed by the Sault Tribe Housing Authority.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)Prepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, patching, and sealing.Apply paint, varnish, and sealants for a finished look using brushes, rollers, and sprayers.Choose the appropriate materials and techniques for each project.Match and mix paint colors as required maintaining consistency and meeting aesthetic requirements.Complete small repairs such as patching drywall, caulking, and priming surfaces.Ensure all work is completed by safety standards and without undue disruption to residents.Cover surfaces with drop clothes, masking tape, and paper to protect surfaces.Maintain clean work areas and secure paint supplies.Replace, hang, finish, and repair drywall.Remove, transport, and dispose of tenant’s personal property left in units upon move-out.Perform minor maintenance repairs on units, i.e. plumbing, electrical, and installing interior doors.Remove fixtures such as doorknobs, electrical switch covers, lamps, etc. Set up scaffolding and use ladders to perform tasks above ground level. Wash surfaces and prepare them for painting.
Create scope of work and material list for vacant unit rehabilitation.CONTACTS:Immediate peers, immediate supervisor/manager and vendors.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Position very heavy with lifting objects over 100 pounds with team or dual lifting and frequent lifting/carrying of more than 50 pounds.
Physical factors include constant standing, walking; frequent carrying/lifting, pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, manual handling, use of hearing, bending; occasional sitting, use of smell, near/midrange/vision, depth perception, and color/field of vision. Working conditions include constant exposure to extreme weather, heat/cold, wet/humidity, noise and vibration and occasional exposure to air quality. Protective equipment and clothing needed to perform job includes hard hat, safety glasses, protective footwear and other protective equipment needed to perform functions of position.
REQUIREMENTS:Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience: Minimum of two years of painting experience required. Four years of residential painting experience preferred.Certification/License: Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.
Must comply with annual driver’s license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with the Sault Tribe’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy which may include random drug tests.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must be familiar with paints and products used in residential painting, Must have knowledge and ability to complete drywall application, paint surfaces, and apply surface textures. Must have knowledge of and ability to use common tools of the trade, i.e. cloth, brushes, sprayer.
Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be flexible and available to work various shifts. Must maintain confidentiality.
