Fund Accounting Manager – Private Markets / Alternatives
A leading global investment services organisation is seeking an experienced Fund Accounting Manager to join its expanding Private Markets / Alternatives team. This role sits within a high-growth area of the business supporting clients across private equity, real estate, infrastructure, credit and other real asset strategies. The successful candidate will lead a team responsible for delivering fund accounting services while building strong client relationships and ensuring operational excellence.
Importantly, the team is also open to professionals with a strong audit background in closed-ended funds, particularly those who have gained experience auditing private markets structures.
The Role
As Fund Accounting Manager, you will oversee the day‑to‑day operations of a fund accounting team while acting as a senior contact for clients and internal stakeholders. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely NAV production, managing a portfolio of private markets clients and driving improvements across operational processes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the senior contact for clients on fund accounting and operational matters
- Managing the production and delivery of accurate and timely NAV calculations
- Ensuring excellent client service and prompt resolution of queries
- Performing root cause analysis on operational issues and implementing appropriate remediation
- Leading and contributing to initiatives aimed at improving processes and operating models
- Ensuring adherence to internal procedures, controls and regulatory requirements
- Managing team capacity and resource planning
- Coaching, mentoring and developing team members
- Building strong working relationships with internal teams, third‑party providers and stakeholders
- Participating in fund board meetings and presenting administrator reports where required
- Reviewing fund documentation ahead of launches and identifying potential operational risks
- Providing subject matter expertise to support new business and onboarding initiatives
About You
This role is suited to candidates with strong experience in private markets / alternative funds, either within fund administration or audit.
You may come from fund accounting, audit or a similar financial services background, provided you have significant exposure to closed‑ended investment structures.
Strong audit background in closed‑ended funds, particularly those who have gained experience auditing private markets structures.
Key experience includes:
- Extensive experience working with closed‑ended funds, such as private equity, real estate, infrastructure, credit or other real asset strategies
- Experience reviewing or working with structures such as SPVs or Section 110 vehicles
- Strong understanding of alternative fund structures, regulatory frameworks and global fund domiciles (e.g. Luxembourg, Cayman, Ireland, US)
- Experience with fund accounting platforms such as Investran or Geneva is advantageous
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, ACA or equivalent is beneficial but not essential
For candidates coming from an audit background
- Auditing private equity, real estate or other closed‑ended funds
- Testing NAV calculations and financial statements
- Reviewing capital calls, distribution allocations and investor capital activity
- Exposure to waterfall calculations and carried interest structures
- Performing valuation testing and investment verification
