About the School Compass Community School Staffordshire is a secondary independent special school for boys aged 11‑17 in Caulden Lowe, Staffordshire. Our students have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and many have additional Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties. We are a trauma‑ and attachment‑informed organisation and provide extensive therapeutic training and support for all staff.
Our triangulated approach places the child at the centre of decision‑making, working with education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams and the students themselves to secure outstanding outcomes. Key Dates Deadline for applications: 26/06/2026 Interview date: W/C 29/06/26 Role Overview The Deputy Head Teacher supports the Head Teacher and the Regional Executive Head Teacher in decision‑making and problem‑solving. You will be responsible for behaviour, attitudes, and attendance, working with a team of leaders across the region and with a specialist Regional SENCO.
The role includes a teaching element and requires strong enthusiasm, commitment to doing the right thing, and leadership to inspire your team. Responsibilities You will manage behaviour, attendance and support the high quality of education, collaborate with colleagues, and engage with professionals from other agencies to influence lasting change. The Right Person Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
A proven record of good or outstanding teaching practice. An excellent, efficient and emotionally intelligent communicator. The ability or willingness to teach a subject specialism to GCSE or equivalent vocational level.
A strong desire to work inclusively within an emotionally literate environment, supporting children who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Experience with crisis‑management, managing challenging behaviours and working with children with SEMH difficulties. Proven experience implementing a creative and academically engaging curriculum that meets the needs of individual pupils while maintaining high standards.
