Job Description
We’re looking for a Cyber Security Engineer to join our team and play a key role in safeguarding our customers’ data and ensuring the integrity of our systems. As a Cyber Security Engineer you will be responsible for implementing and improving security controls across the business. You will be pivotal in driving meaningful change in our cyber maturity program and will deliver workstreams including, but not limited to, perimeter, network, endpoint, software, data, and foundational controls.
This role can be based in any of our three head offices (Slough, Welwyn Garden City or Manchester). Occasional travel to the other offices may be required and is expenseable. Tesco Mobile operates a hybrid working arrangement with a minimum of two days per week collaborating with colleagues at an office, store, or supplier location.
This role has potential for career growth or learning opportunities for the right person. As a Security Engineer, you will take responsibility for implementing controls on an enterprise scale. Taking guidance from our internal controls framework, you’ll translate complex requirements into effective and scalable solutions, considering implementation and run‑and‑operate of the controls.
Understanding that one‑size does not fit all, you must be creative and engage with teams across the business to make their products more secure while balancing the need to move at speed and remain flexible. We are an agile business organised around cross‑functional end‑to‑end squads, grouped into tribes and centres of excellence (CoE). This role requires collaborating across all areas of the business, so how you work is just as important as what you do.
You should be comfortable creating code and deploying technical solutions, as well as educating others and enabling the business, always thinking customer first. Key Qualities and Experience An ambition to constantly learn new skills and develop knowledge. Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
Experience with platforms such as AWS and Azure, as well as GitHub and GitHub Advanced Security. Implemented enterprise‑level technical controls, applying deep and broad knowledge across multiple security domains. A proven record of integrating security features into the software development life cycle.
Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, PowerShell, Terraform or similar. Ensuring that systems are safe and secure against threats with secure‑by‑design principles. Passion for cultivating a culture of collaboration, innovation and industry standards.
