What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a strategic and forward‑thinking Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to lead the Laboratory's human resources organization. As a core member of the Leadership Team, you will align and implement an enterprise‑wide people strategy that enables scientific excellence and national security missions. In this role, you will oversee all human resources functions, including talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations, workforce analytics, and organizational development.
You will serve as a trusted advisor to Laboratory leadership, driving workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, and cultural alignment across a highly complex, mission‑driven environment. You will build on recent successes that include record hiring levels, expanded employee benefits, modernized human resources systems, and innovative compensation and retention programs. Your leadership will ensure continued evolution of a high‑performing workforce that supports the Laboratory's science and technology mission while fostering a culture of inclusion, integrity, and excellence.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements
- Demonstrated experience leading human resources strategy and operations in a large, complex organization
- Proven ability to function as a change agent, leveraging organizational dynamics to drive performance and transformation
- Comprehensive knowledge of human resources principles across multiple functional areas, including talent management, compensation, employee relations, and workforce planning
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to develop and implement innovative human capital solutions
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of an organization
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a research and development environment, federally affiliated laboratory, or Management and Operations environment
- Familiarity with federal human resources policies and practices, including Department of Energy or National Nuclear Security Administration frameworks
- Advanced degree in a related field
- Relevant professional certifications such as Senior Professional in Human Resources, Certified Compensation Professional, or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist
- Experience leading large‑scale workforce growth, human resources improvement initiatives, and/or enterprise system implementations
Education and Experience
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 20 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Work Environment
Work location: Onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management. Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. The position commitment for this position is 1 year or 2 years.

Security Clearance
Position will be cleared to Q clearance. Selected applicants must obtain a Q clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. The background investigation will be conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government.
In addition to the Q clearance, accessing classified information may require additional authorization, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.
