Business Analyst – Data Discovery & Data Quality

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst with a strong background in Data Analysis, Data Discovery, Data Quality, and Metadata Management. The ideal candidate will work closely with Product Managers, Data Engineers, SMEs, and Business Stakeholders to understand data landscapes, assess data quality, document metadata, and support the delivery of data-driven products and initiatives.

This role requires a hands-on analyst who can investigate complex datasets, perform data profiling, define data quality rules, understand data lineage, and translate business requirements into actionable data insights.

Key Responsibilities

Data Discovery & Analysis

• Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and business insights.
• Profile new and existing data sources to assess structure, content, quality, and readiness for consumption.
• Conduct detailed data investigations to identify lineage, dependencies, and inconsistencies.
• Collaborate with business and technology teams to understand data context, business rules, and usage scenarios.
• Perform ad-hoc data analysis to support strategic initiatives, migrations, and governance activities.

Data Quality & Validation

• Define and implement data quality checks and validation rules.
• Conduct data validation activities to ensure data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and integrity.
• Identify data quality issues and work with stakeholders to drive remediation activities.
• Support testing and validation of datasets throughout the data lifecycle.

Metadata Management & Documentation

• Collaborate with Data Engineers and Subject Matter Experts to document critical datasets, tables, fields, and business definitions.
• Perform metadata assessments to identify gaps in lineage, classifications, ownership, and definitions.
• Maintain business metadata including glossary terms, KPIs, business rules, and data categorizations.
• Support the enrichment and maintenance of enterprise data catalogues and metadata repositories.
• Document process flows, data mappings, business rules, scenarios, constraints, and data lineage.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of logical and physical data models.
• Support the design and enhancement of semantic models and curated data products.
• Recommend improvements to data structures, schema design, and analytical data models.
• Assist with data governance initiatives and best practices.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner with Product Managers, Engineering Teams, Business Users, and SMEs to deliver data-focused outcomes.
• Support business stakeholders during User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and post-production activities.
• Provide data-driven recommendations to support decision-making and product development.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Business Analyst, Data Business Analyst, or Data Analyst.
• Strong experience with Data Discovery, Data Profiling, and Data Analysis.
• Advanced SQL skills with the ability to write and optimize complex queries.
• Hands-on experience in Data Quality Management and Data Validation.
• Strong understanding of Data Lineage and Metadata Management concepts.
• Experience documenting business rules, process flows, data mappings, and data definitions.
• Knowledge of Logical and Physical Data Modelling.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams in Agile delivery environments.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation abilities.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Data Governance initiatives.
• Exposure to Data Catalog and Metadata Management tools such as Collibra, Alation, Microsoft Purview, Atlan, or similar.
• Understanding of Data Warehousing and Analytics platforms.
• Experience supporting data migration, transformation, or modernization projects.
• Familiarity with BI and reporting tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
