Job DescriptionJob DescriptionNASA Ames Research Center’s Aviation Simulation Research & Development Branch (Code AFS) develops advanced simulation environments that support air traffic management research, flight simulation, and airspace operations analysis. As these environments grow in complexity, high‑fidelity 3D visual databases and models play a critical role in enabling realistic simulation scenarios for engineers, researchers, and operators.The Code AF Software Facility is seeking an experienced 3D Visualization & Training Engineer to lead training, curriculum development, and technical integration efforts supporting the production and use of 3D content for flight and air traffic control simulations. This role includes direct support to visual engineers, collaboration with simulation project teams, and subject‑matter expertise in the integration of imagery with commercial image generator systems.Required Skills and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Graphics/Visualization, Engineering, or related discipline15-20 years of relevant experience developing or using 3D visual databasesExperience conducting structured technical trainingProficiency with Creator Pro or similar 3D modeling toolsUnderstanding of visual simulation pipelines and real‑time rendering conceptsExperience preparing training materials and measurable learning objectivesAbility to coordinate with engineering teams and participate in technical reviewsStrong interpersonal and communication skillsOther Desired SkillsFamiliarity with air traffic control and flight simulation conceptsExperience working with image generator systems, ideally RSI systemsBackground supporting simulation engineering teamsCore ResponsibilitiesTraining Development and DeliveryConduct training on development of 3D databases including airports, cities, terrainProvide instruction on creating 3D moving models such as aircraft, spacecraft, and vehiclesTeach effective use of Creator Pro for 3D content productionDevelop structured curriculum for entry-level visual engineersTechnical Expertise and IntegrationServe as SME on integrating 3D content with RSI image generator systemsEnsure 3D databases meet fidelity, compatibility, and performance requirementsSupport visual database development tasksProject Support and CollaborationAttend flight and air traffic control simulation project meetingsCollaborate with simulation engineers and stakeholders to align training with needsEEOE Including Vets and DisabilityNo visa sponsorship available
